Did you know that selections from Gustav Holst’s The Planets were used as temp score for Star Wars? Before that classic space opera was finished, before John Williams had written any music for the movie, the editors used parts of The Planets (as well as some other music by other composers) to get a feel for what the movie would feel like with music.
Want proof? Listen to Holst’s Mars, the Bringer of War, and tell me you can’t picture an epic space battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire.
If you’re still not convinced, watch this video with back-to-back excerpts from Star Wars and Mars.
